Demystifying Dental Abutments and Digital Workflows: The Technicians Perspective

Steven William Campbell

This lecture describes insights related to dental technician training programs in both the UK and in the global market. The technician’s perspective on the changing trend of digital workflows in the planning and fabricating the implant prostheses is also provided, along with ways in which lab communications can be improved via exchange of digital images. The case discussion on restoring the maxillary central incisor and maxillary edentulous arch with the help of digital workflows provides insights into abutment and prosthetic framework designs. The possibility of use of automation and robotics in prosthetic designs is also discussed.

At the end of this Congress Lecture you should be able to…

  • explain the status of the dental technician workforce in dental practice worldwide
  • describe the digital workflow to design a single implant crown
  • describe the digital workflow to restore a completely edentulous arch with fixed implant restoration
